Pulse

This version of "Pulse" was installed in a narrow 18' x 15' x 3' storage space located behind gallery walls at Mills College Art Museum. A steel gate places the viewer approximately 10 feet from the object and impedes entrance to the tunnel-like closet space. A chewed dog toy with a motor placed inside moves slowly. Hidden speakers implanted at strategic locations within the space play two identical field recordings of a disembodied whimpering dog, which can only be heard after stepping into the doorway.
